Sometimes the hardest part of building something new is knowing when to pause and reassess. That’s exactly where I am right now.

Redesigning Eco Stylish: reflecting on the future of pre-loved fashion

Eco Stylish was born from a deep love for pre-loved fashion and a strong belief in the power of community and collaboration. The idea was simple: instead of endlessly searching online or sifting through racks in vintage shops, why not come to a beautiful space already curated with stylish, high-quality pieces?

Add in the chance to meet like-minded people, network, and enjoy something inspiring, like a live podcast recording, and it felt like a no-brainer.

But after hosting four events in 2024 that didn’t generate enough traction to make the business sustainable, and having to cancel our latest event scheduled for 5 April (where we were due to record a live podcast interview with the incredible founder of People Flow), I’ve had to accept a tough truth: something isn’t connecting.

Why Pre-Loved Fashion Has Massive Potential

So I’m back to the drawing board. Not giving up, but digging deeper. The demand is there:

The Guardian just ran a piece on hunting for pre-loved fashion gems, BBC covered the growing issue of luxury counterfeits infiltrating that very market, and BoF reported that even Anna Wintour is now supporting celebrity wardrobe resales.

The secondhand fashion market is booming. I know we’re on the right track. At Eco Stylish, we’re not about labels, we care about fabric quality, timeless style, and that effortlessly chic look(think Tom Ford, Halston, Chanel). Our swapping criteria reflects that. And our events weren’t just about clothes; they were about connection. Collaboration over competition. Always.

So what went wrong?

  • Were ticket prices a barrier?

  • Was Saturday afternoon a bad time?

  • Would you rather attend a workshop than watch a podcast live?

  • Should we explore weekday evening events instead?
